Making Lemonade out of Lemons

Here's the last sleeve for the bookworm sweater

and to the right is all of the Orkney ASC I left.

This pattern calls for 5 balls of yarn. If there's one thing I've learned from the vast number of Miss Bea sweaters I've made, it's that I never use all of the yarn called for so I started this project with only 4 balls. Partway through, I realized that I'd used some of this yarn for Joshua's Bob, but since it was just a few stripes on a newborn vest I didn't think it would affect this project. As I was finishing the second sleeve, I realized I might not have enough to make the turtleneck in the pattern, so I started looking online for a place to get one more ball. That is when I realized I was in trouble. The color was discontinued, and the best I could do was pay around $40 on ebay for 18 more skeins. Considering that I need less than 18 yards to finish this, I couldn't really justify it. I then realized that on the Bob sweater, I'd used this yarn for the bottom border. It wasn't a whole lot, but the rows of ribbing combined with those few stripes used just enough yarn to make me run out.
So, I don't have enough yarn to finish the pattern as written- time to prioritize. I love the turtleneck and front cable. I really like the sleeve cables and the exposed shoulder seam. I can do without the back cable.
Plan A
Reknit the back in stockinette stitch. Seam the shoulders and knit the neck. If this doesn't work then we go to plan B which involves reknitting the sleeves in stockinette also.

Ann and Kay are really awesome!

We finally got on a knitting book tour!

The book signing was a lot of fun. Ann and Kay were incredibly approachable and down to earth, and I loved reading the book. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay afterwards to hang out and knit. The event's other downside- the store did an awful job promoting it. I guess if it's not a workshop where you charge admission, then it isn't worth mentioning on the website or in the email newsletters. Also, providing enough chairs for people to sit is a plus. (But then again, my last boss was a marketing machine, so maybe my expectations are a little high.)

As for knitting, I've got sleeves for you-

one for bookworm and the second one for the straight neck pullover.

Cool Pottery

Here's the first really cool piece I've had fired.

Out of all the things we made in the intermediate class, bottles and jars with lids are the most impressive to me. Of the five I've made, this is the only one to be bisqued so far. At some point, I'll go in and actually glaze my pieces rather than throwing more of them.

Charlotte and Joshua are both a little closer to getting more sweaters.

The front of Char's Manosque Pullover is finished,

as is the back of Joshua's Bookworm sweater.

This pattern is from the Debbie Bliss Baby Knits book, and I'm using red Debbie Bliss Merino. This cardi currently has a back and one front.

Clapotis

I'm up to the fourth repeat of the straight section. This one is knitted with Artyarns Supermerino.

Generic Toe-up socks

This is the first foot. I'm using Wendy's pattern and Meilenweit Cotton Fun.

Truelove

The pattern is from Rowan Babies; the yarn is Rowan 4-ply Soft. This is about 50 rows into the back.

Straight Neck Pullover

I'm knitting this Hollywood Knits pattern with Cotton-ease. So far, I have one sleeve.

I'm still working on these red/pink projects, but that doesn't stop me from looking ahead to this month's yellow/orange basket.
